# PrivacyWire
> A maintained reference on platform privacy policies.

## About
PrivacyWire is a reference work on what major technology platforms do with your
data, compiled from the platforms' own published documents. For each maintained
platform it answers four questions: what the service collects, who legally
controls it, where the platform stands on AI and ML training, and what has
changed in the policy over time.

Two rules govern the maintained content:

1. Every factual claim links to the primary document it came from — the
   platform's own policy, or a regulator or court filing. Not news coverage of
   one, unless the claim is specifically about the coverage.
2. Nothing in it is generated. Claims are read out of the policy text and
   verified against the live document by hand. A claim that cannot be grounded
   that way does not go on the page.

Change history is built by diffing versions the platform published itself,
against the platform's own policy archive, rather than by describing them.

Accountability is organisational rather than personal, and deliberately so:
these pages are compiled reference data, not authored articles. Each carries the
maintaining organisation (Redact Holdings, Inc.), the date it was last checked,
and a statement of method.

## Maintained platforms
Four platforms have a full posture page, built on the platform's own published
policy archive:

## Other tracked platforms
Monitored for policy changes, without a maintained posture page. These pages
carry the change record only, and say so:

A platform gets a posture page only when it publishes a policy archive complete
enough to diff. Most do not: several publish only regional variants or a prose
change log, and a change log cannot be diffed.

## What a posture page contains
- Headline — the one thing that most changes how you should treat the service
- Key facts — labelled findings (who controls your data, admin access, AI and
  ML training, retention, jurisdiction), each with detail and a primary source
- Actions — what you can actually do, and who is able to do it, which is
  frequently not the reader
- Featured redline — one substantive change rendered line by line from two
  archived versions, capped, with links to both source documents
- Monitoring — what is watched and how often
- Method, maintainer, and last-reviewed date

## Change records
Each policy change record includes:
- Platform name and URL
- Effective date range (old policy date → new policy date)
- Severity: major, moderate, or minor
- Category: policy-change, enforcement, breach, lawsuit, regulatory-order
- Tags: data-collection, children-privacy, ai-training, third-party-sharing,
  transparency, eu-compliance, data-transfers, advertising, biometric-data,
  user-rights, enforcement, content-licensing, arbitration, data-breach,
  consent-decree, data-scraping, surveillance
- Unified diff of the policy text, where both sides are available

## URL structure
- / — platform grid and recent policy changes
- /{platform-slug} — posture page where one exists, change record otherwise
  (slack, google, x-twitter, discord, facebook, instagram, whatsapp, apple,
  microsoft, amazon, linkedin, reddit, tiktok, snap, bluesky)

- /timeline — all changes, filterable by tag or category

Archived-version redlines are rendered inside posture pages and are not
addressable as their own URLs; they are supporting evidence, not documents.
/industry was retired in 2026 and returns 410.
